At the 2009 Wahine Forum, workshops on the following topics were presented:

Worldly Wise Women I: International Business

Business in today’s global economy demands basic understanding of cultural protocols. The rules in China are very different from those in Japan. The experiences of women in international business vary from that of male counterparts. Our panel of Hawaii-based international businesswomen will outline experiences in Japan, Singapore and China. Expect them to burst stereotypes, provide better perspective and in some cases give us a chuckle.

Civic commitment should make sense for the volunteer, the organization and the adopted cause. Presenters will discuss how to create win-win strategic alliances that build skills while supporting community. This session will give tips for establishing a sustainable program of service such as making good choices for which organizations to support, and aligning your service with your values and your personal goals.

Worldly Wise Women II: Global Voluntarism

Teaching English, digging wells, building houses and micro-businesses, administering vaccinations—where to focus your desire to help an emerging country? Thousands of women travel to volunteer, making a difference in the lives of others and their own. Hear from women who have made populations on the edge a part of their lives in ways that expand perspectives. The veteran global volunteer knows what it takes, has made a serious investment and is better for it. Learn from them and consider whether some corner of the world calls to you.
