C Kearns

Carla possesses a diverse background in both education and business that provides her clients with the insight to incorporate cultural intelligence strategies in their China business.  With years of experience working in and with China and Taiwan, and directing a business that employs a Chinese workforce; Carla’s training blends inter-cultural models with practical experience.

Carla, a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, has been fortunate to work in locales as far-flung as Taiwan, San Francisco, Honolulu and Shanghai.

Seeing the critical need to improve communications and effectiveness between North American and Chinese companies and government agencies, she returned to Canada in 2006 to establish TLI-The Mandarin School.  In addition to conducting training on working successfully in China, the institute teaches Mandarin Chinese Language to business professionals – proving to them that with the right methodology (and TLI's 50-year track record), speaking Chinese is "bu tai nan" (not too difficult). TLI-The Mandarin School’s clients have included The Home Depot, Hudson’s Bay Company, TD Financial Group, the Canada China Business Council, Prudential Locations, Brock University, Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical, AGF Management and senior government officials.

Carla has been a champion of environmental collaboration between Canada & China.  In 2007, she founded and chaired the Canada China Environmental Forum - bringing together corporate and government leaders with entrepreneurs and investors to optimize economic, social and diplomatic opportunities in the environmental sector between Canada and China.  In December 2009, Carla will co-lead the first Canadian Women Entrepreneur's Mission to China and Hong Kong.
